A British soldier has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said.

The soldier was from the 1st Battalion, The Royal Welsh.

He died in the blast yesterday while travelling in a vehicle in the Nahr-e Saraj region of Helmand province.
