Boy, 3, Shoots Father And Pregnant Mother

A three-year-old boy has accidentally shot his father and pregnant mother with the same bullet in front of his sister.

According to police the incident happened in a motel room in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as the boy was trying to get an iPod from his mother's handbag.

The father, Justin Reynolds, was shot in the buttock while the mother, Monique Villescas, was hit in the arm. Both are said to be recovering.

Reynolds told NBC News station KOB he heard a shot as he was about to order a pizza. He added: "The next minute I realised my girlfriend was bleeding. Then I sat down and realised I was shot too."

The boy and his two-year-old sister are now in the care of Children's Youth and Families department.

The Albuquerque District Attorney's Office will decide if the parents will face charges of negligence.

Albuquerque police spokesman Simon Drobik said: "If you are going to be a gun owner, you need to lock it up and keep it safe, especially around children."
