Beauty Blogger Uses Mouthwash To Get Rid Of Dandruff

And a trichologist said it actually works.

Want to get rid of dandruff fast? One woman is claiming Listerine is the answer.

Beauty blogger Farah Dhukai, from Canada, took to Instagram to share her unusual haircare tip.

In a tutorial video she applies a mixture of the popular mouthwash diluted with water all over her head before washing out to reveal a flake-less scalp.

"Get rid of dandruff fast!" Dhukai writes in the video's description, explaining that: "All you need is ORIGINAL Listerine!"

She adds: "Listerine has menthol, thymol, eucalyptol and methyl salicylate - all which make it an anti-fungal, anti-septic and and anti-inflammatory and PERFECT for getting rid of dandruff."

To check up on the blogger's claims, The Huffington Post UK contacted Carole Michaelides, trichologist at Philip Kingsley.

"Mouthwash such as Listerine can indeed help treat dandruff," she told us.

"It doesn’t specifically target the malassezia yeast pityrosporum ovale that is thought to be primarily associated with dandruff, but it could have a mildly antifungal effect and help reduce irritation.

"Nevertheless an antidandruff shampoo and scalp tonic designed to treat dandruff will be more effective and much easier to use as the mouthwash would need to be diluted."
