Neil Cowley

Pianist, composer & leader of Neil Cowley Trio. Musician in Residence during Derry-Londonderry’s reign as UK City of Culture 2013

At the age of 10, Neil Cowley performed a Shostakovich piano concerto at the Royal Festival Hall, but gave up classical piano as a teen to play old school RnB as a means, he says, of getting into pubs. He has performed at the worlds biggest festivals and released 5 albums with his band, The Neil Cowley Trio, with whom he has won several awards including Jazz Artist of the Year, and a BBC Award for Best Album. His most recent studio recording is 2012’s Face of Mount Molehill

He is also much in demand by soul and pop acts – in fact having appeared on both Adele’s colossal hits 19 and 21, some bright spark number crunched and figured this makes him, quite possibly, the most listened to pianist on the planet.

He is currently Musician in Residence in Derry-Londonderry, 2013’s UK City of Culture, an appointment awarded by PRS for Music Foundation.
