Parts of Australia have declared a state of emergency as firefighters race to contain widespread bushfires. At least three people have died so far as parts of the nation brace for worse conditions in the coming days.
They were rescued from Gordon Working Men’s Club but died a short time later.
A fire which engulfed a four-storey block of flats in Worcester Park is under control, the London Fire Brigade said. It took 25 fire engines and 125 firefighters to tackle the blaze. There are no reported injuries.
Divers are continuing the search for missing passengers around the wreck of a boat that was destroyed by a fire in the early hours of Monday off the coast of California. Emergency personnel have so far recovered 25 bodies. The scuba diving vessel Conception was on a three-day excursion and was moored off the coast of Santa Cruz Island when the blaze started. Five crew members were able to escape.
The town of Nejapa, El Salvador celebrated its annual fireball festival with participants pelting each other with rags drenched in gasoline that have been rolled into tight flaming balls. The tradition is to commemorate the 1658 volcanic eruption that forced the town to be abandoned.

A huge fire ripped through a neighbourhood in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka. Thousands of homes burned to the ground. It took six hours for emergency teams to tackle the flames. No fatalities have been reported yet but several people have been injured and thousands are homeless.
Flames engulfed the first to sixth floor of the building.
A 19-year-old crane operator saved the lives of 14 people, when a seven-storey residential building caught fire in northeast China. Lan Junze, acted quickly by driving his crane over and allowing trapped residents to climb onto its platform.
