The Independent's star journalist, Johann Hari, has been suspended after becoming embroiled in a row over quotations used in his interviews. There will be an internal investigation by the paper following accusations that the Orwell Prize-winning writer plagiarised and recycled old quotations.
The Independent's new editor, Chris Blackhurst, said an investigation would report back in two months' time. It will be led by former Independent editor Andreas Whittam-Smith. Hari has previously apologised for committing what he described as an "error of judgement".
