PRESS ASSOCIATION -- Five people have been arrested after a 16-year-old girl died from a suspected drug overdose.
The teenager has been named by police as Serena Harding from Warrington, Cheshire.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police were called at around 10.50pm on Sunday to Reddish Vale Road, Reddish, Stockport, following reports that a girl was unconscious.
The emergency services attended the scene - close to Reddish Vale animal farm - and despite attempts to revive the girl at the scene and at hospital, she died.
Four men aged 20, 19, 19 and 18 and a 25-year-old woman have been arrested for drug related offences.
Chief Inspector Mark Hussey, from Stockport Police, said: "The full circumstances of the teenager's death have not yet been established. However, we believe she may have taken a controlled substance. At this stage, we are unsure what substance she may have taken and we are awaiting results from further tests to see whether she died as a result of taking this substance.
"I would urge anyone who may know anything about this to contact police as soon as possible."
He added: "At this time of year, with GCSE and A-level results due, many young people will be in celebratory spirit and there will no doubt be many parties being held where there may be opportunities for them to experiment with drugs and alcohol.
"I would like to remind them to be mindful of the potentially fatal and damaging effects taking drugs can have and to say no if they are offered to them."
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to phone police on 0161 856 9987 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
