Why You Can't Buy Amazon Kindle Fire In The UK

The Amazon PR office in London today confirmed that there are no plans to make the new Amazon Kindle Fire available in the UK. Their spokesperson told Huffington Post they had no information on when or if it will available in the UK, and had no demonstration models in the UK.

Attempts to pre-order a Kindle Fire from the US Amazon site were met with a clear "no can do" error message. Access to Kindle Fire, denied.

This Techcrunch blog runs through several reasons why this may be, including no approval for the device granted from European government agencies, the silk browser not being compatible with EU privacy law and insufficient EU content agreements.

If you know a friend in the US who's willing to receive a Kindle Fire for you, by all means, you can go ahead and pre-order. But since that's a difficult option for most, and impossible for some, the iPad will continue to win the tablet wars here in the UK and Europe.
