Rooney Mara Got Wasted For 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' Auditions

Rooney Mara Got Wasted For 'Dragon Tattoo'

Rooney Mara has revealed how she once got drunk for an audition for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

The actress, who first met director David Fincher on the set of The Social Network, had to put herself through a heavy alcohol-fuelled night to impress studio bosses while casting for the role as computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in the Hollywood remake of the Swedish film.

"Fincher said, 'Go out and get really, really drunk and come in the next morning so we can take pictures of you'. And I did it! Threw up all night!" she told Vogue.

Rooney admitted she had been disillusioned about the Hollywood experience, following a part in 2010's reboot of Nightmare On Elm Street.

She said: "I hated it. It left me thinking, If this is what is available to me, then I don't necessarily want to be an actress. And then I got the script for The Social Network."

The New York-born actress is preparing herself for the eagerly anticipated release of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, also starring Daniel Craig.

"That kind of fame is not something I ever wanted for myself. It just so happens this huge, gigantic monster of a film came around that also happens to have the most incredible character that I ever could have dreamed up," she continued.

"But my fear with a movie like this is the kind of exposure you get from it. I think that can be death to an actor. After this, I won't be able to be that girl again."
