James Bulger Killer Jon Venables 'Will Not Be Given Second Secret Identity', Will Remain In Prison Indefinitely

James Bulger Killer Jon Venables To Remain In Prison 'Indefinitely'

Jon Venables, the killer of James Bulger, will not be allowed to leave prison under a second identity, because officials believe he cannot be trusted to keep it a secret.

Sources told The Daily Mail that Jon Venables, who abducted, tortured and murdered the two-year-old Bolger with Robert Thompson when he was 10 years old in 1993, is unlikely now to ever be released from prison.

Venables was released early on life license in 2001, but was jailed again in 2010 after being caught with images of child abuse.

It has emerged since that Venables gave up his own identity to friends after he became paranoid they had discovered who he really was.

Probation officials had begun moving him to a safe house when they discovered his attempt to destroy the hard drive of his computer.

Concerns that Venables would compromise his identity again if allowed to leave prison under false name means that it is now considered safer to keep him in custody, the Mail reported.

The decision comes after it was ruled in the High Court that Venables faces a "clear and present danger" of being killed if his identity was revealed.

The Mail reported that while in prison he will be assessed every six months.

The Ministry of Justice told The Huffington Post UK that they do not comment on individual cases.
