The chickens came home to roost for one hen in East China, who laid a huge egg nearly four times larger than a standard egg.
At 130 grams and 10cm long, the egg only just fits in the palm of a hand and weighs almost as much a cricket ball.
The normal sized chicken was considerably hen-pecked by her burden, taking five days to lay the egg. Hen eggs usually weigh around 57g, and even ostrich eggs are only 23 cm long. This cock-sure hen managed to lay one almost half that size.

Shocked farmer, Gao Nianrong, said of the nest egg: "We have never seen such a large egg before. We think it's a good omen. And we will not eat it."
