Scotland Yard: Chief Inspector Suspended After Boasting Of Taking Drugs

A senior Metropolitan Police officer has been suspended from duty following allegations he committed a sexual offence and boasted about taking drugs on an internet dating site.

The chief inspector, aged 46, was based at a central London unit, was found by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) to have breached the Metropolitan Police Service's Standards of Behaviour and has been dismissed for gross misconduct.

In a statement issued this afternoon the IPCC said he had committed criminal offences.

"Following a managed investigation by the IPCC, an MPS Officer has been dismissed without notice following a two day hearing into allegations of misconduct," the oversight body said.

"The breaches relate to claims made to members of the public on an interactive dating website that he was a serving police officer and that he had committed criminal offences including drug-taking and a sexual offence.

"He was also found to have used his position as a uniformed police officer to have advertised himself online in an attempt to meet sexual partners while in uniform."

IPCC Commissioner, Mike Franklin, said police officers should hold positions of authority and trust in the communities they serve.

“Those who discredit their role cannot expect to continue to serve the public, and, as in this case, they should be dismissed," he said.

An earlier investigation by Kent Police had found that there was insufficient evidence to pursue any criminal allegations.
