Former assistant commissioner John Yates has been cleared by the Independent Police Complaints Commission of misconduct.
Yates had been accused of improperly securing a job at Scotland Yard for the daughter of phone-hacking suspect Neil Wallis, a former deputy editor of the News of the World.
Wallis himself had been employed as a public relations consultant by the Met once he had left the paper in 2009.
The controversy contributed to both Yates' resignation from the Met and the then commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson.
In a statement on Monday afternoon the IPPC said: "As a result of an independent investigation conducted by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), former MPS Assistant Commissioner John Yates has been notified that the IPCC has found no evidence of misconduct which would justify disciplinary proceedings in relation to allegations about forwarding a CV for the purposes of employment at the MPS.
It added: "The final report which will confirm these findings will be finalised in the coming weeks."
