Freddie Starr won't be returning to the jungle to join his fellow I'm A Celebrity... contestants after a health scare just three days into this year's show.
The 68-year-old comedian suffered a suspected allergic reaction during one of the first Bushtucker trials and had to be taken to hospital after becoming breathless. Doctors advised TV producers to play it safe and remove Starr from the jungle altogether.
Starr, who was nearly refused health insurance for his trip to Queensland where the show is filmed after a quadruple heart bypass operation last year, said: "I was sick not to finish the show. I wanted to be there until the very end, but there's no use crying over spilt milk. The decision has been made and I have to live with that."
The show's bosses released a statement this morning, which read:
"Producers of I’m A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here! have decided that Freddie Starr won’t return to live in the jungle. Freddie has been a terrific contestant. His Bush Tucker Trial is one of the stand out moments in the history of the series and we wish him all the very best. "
