Radio One's Judge Jules Is Giving Up DJing...To Be A Lawyer

BBC Radio 1's Judge Jules is swapping his headphones and decks for a wig and gown as he launches his new legal career.

Judge Jules has hosted a Radio 1 show for 14 years, but he is being shifted out of the schedule alongside veteran DJ Gilles Peterson as the radio station looks for younger talent.

The DJ told his fans: "I'm going to continue DJ-ing and I'm having a bit of a career change - I'm off to become an entertainment lawyer at Sheridans."

A legal career is not as bizarre as it sounds though. Judge Jules, whose real name is Julius O'Riordan, studied law at the London School of Economics, where he started out DJing for fun before turning professional.

The BBC announced the high profile departures on Wednesday. It has been the first major decision from new Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper.

The new line-up will include cult dance DJs Skream & Benga and Toddla T. There will also be a new show from April - BBC Radio 1 Residency.
