Guy Ritchie has been welcomed back into the film establishment since his Sherlock Holmes big screen effort proved his earlier success with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels wasn't a one-off.
Obviously, we won't mention the 'Madonna years' of his career, when he made a few false moves such as RocknRolla, and even, almost fatally for his career, got Swept Away with his then wife in a lead role.
Fortunately, for cinema-goers, he's found his metier with London's favourite detective Sherlock Holmes. And, just as Benedict Cumberbatch has found a natural groove in the contemporary TV version, so Robert Downey Jr has proved a very snug fit for the wide-eyed, mischievous Holmes with a twinkle in his eye and an opium pipe at the ready.
The first film even made Jude Law popular again. So what have do we have in store from the sequel when it appears in UK cinemas on 16 December?
