Wayne and Coleen Rooney hope to add a bit of class to their image after splashing out £100,000 on race horses in a bid to mix with equestrian sporting royalty.

Coleen and Wayne are said to be fans of the Grand National with the socialite often spotted in glamorous outfits at the annual event.

Scouser Wayne enlisted the help of friend Michael Owen after commissioning him to find the horses. Michael keeps almost 100 horses and Wayne's black beauties will be kept with them at Michael's stables.

They are to be be looked after by top trainer Tom Dascombe in the hope of turning them into racing champs.

A spokesman for the stables told the Daily Mirror: "Wayne's been here and obviously liked what he saw. If his horse is the next Brown Panther, that would be amazing."

After the recent stress caused by a series of family photos being stolen and threats of blackmail in order for their return, the couple hope the horses will unite the family over the Christmas period.

A source told the Daily Mirror: "They have bought the horses because they are passionate about the sport and it is a hobby they can enjoy together."

Coleen and Wayne have even been getting son Kai involved as the youngster had his first riding lesson in September.
