Mark Wahlberg To Return To Ring For Sequel To Boxing Movie 'The Fighter'

More Fighting For Mark?

Mark Wahlberg is returning to the boxing ring for a sequel to his hit movie The Fighter.

The 2009 film garnered Oscars for co-stars Christian Bale and Melissa Leo and chronicled the ups and downs of celebrated boxer 'Irish' Micky Ward.

Insiders suggest the follow-up film will focus on Ward's infamous battles with his arch-rival Arturo Gatti.

But it appears David O. Russell will not be back for the film.

Wahlberg tells The Playlist: "We got to do that film before I get too old, so maybe in the next year, year and a half.

"We have to wait for the script and then we'll choose a director."

And Wahlberg looks set to be a busy man as he's also planning a new reality TV show documenting the ins and outs of the contraband crime world at the Port of Los Angeles.

The star has developed a fascination with the shady dealings of illegal goods since researching and shooting his upcoming movie Contraband, which is a remake of a cult European film, and now he's hoping to investigate further with a series made for the small screen.

LAst month he told WENN: "We're trying to put together a show right now about the Port of L.A. and all the different things that happen in this port. It's a reality show, like a docudrama.

Here is the trailer for the original Fighter, just to remind you how good it is:
