Alicia Rius's Vivid Portraits Of Abandoned Cars

Forgotten Cars Make Eerie Photographs

There's something enchanting about these simple photographs.

For us, they evoke a feeling from childhood, that sense of adventure and mystery that came with exploring an abandoned building or a new wood.

The sight of something man-made like a car abandoned and overran by nature throws up many points of intrigue: who once owned the car, how did it get here and where were the drivers going?

To others, From the Back Seat of My Car - a series created by Netherlands-based photographer Alicia Rius - might strike a somewhat ominous note. Are they the results of accidents? Is there something creepy about the way people are absent from the scene?

Rius herself, who lives and works in Amsterdam, describes the work as "a search for hidden treasures."

"I slip off into the dark of abandoned places, hopeing to uncover their secrets. After their years spent in oblivion, I turn them back into the protagonists of their own story," she says.
