A police officer found dead in his car had been arrested for alleged child pornography offences two months earlier.
Police Sergeant John Skilling, who had run Gloucestershire Police's schools unit, was arrested last September on "suspicion of making, possessing and distributing indecent images of children".
The 50-year-old was discovered in his car in an exhaust fume-filled garage.
In a statement, Gloucestershire Police said: "We can confirm that on 13 September 2011 a 50-year-old serving police officer was arrested at his home on suspicion of making, possessing and distributing indecent images of children.
"The man was released on police bail pending further inquiries.
"He was immediately suspended but subsequently left the constabulary of his own accord.
"On the morning of 20 November 2011 he was found deceased at his home address.
"His death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner was informed.
"We are satisfied, at this time, that the individual arrested did not commit any offences during the course of his work."
Sgt Skilling, from Hucclecote, was known for giving talks at schools on cyber-bullying.
He had worked as head of Gloucestershire Police schools unit until less than a year before his death when he was moved as part of a cost-cutting force re-shuffle.
Last year he said: "I am very proud of what the whole team has achieved within the schools unit over the last few years.
"We all worked incredibly hard to make sure young people have the knowledge to protect themselves in all areas of their lives.
"I know the officers that remain on the team will make sure this hard work continues and will pass on their expertise to colleagues on local policing teams."
An inquest was opened into Sgt Skilling's death on 12 November and a full inquest is due to be held on 13 March in Gloucester.
