Sweaty, half-naked and making eyes at the camera. We’ve all seen Jennifer Lopez do this plenty of times.
But while sticking with a familiar formula, V magazine has managed to serve up the pop diva with a twist – in masculine, heavy duty boxing gear.
Shot by Mario Testino for the spring 2012 issue, the spread features Lopez putting ‘em up, snarling at the camera and wearing an alarmingly large groin protector. (She said she opted for the prominent piece, saying ‘I thought it was more graphic’, and ‘It did make me feel tougher’. )
Ostensibly the piece is to promote Lopez’s upcoming show Q!Viva: The Chosen, a venture with her estranged husband Marc Anthony and Jamie King.
The show sees the trio hunt for talent in Latin America and promises “to be the most remarkable search and the most extraordinary live event in history, featuring world-class singers, musicians, dancers, acrobats and other extraordinary performers.”
Despite her and Anthony’s very public show of “everything is fine” since their split, audiences will no doubt be scrutinising the former couple’s behaviour for hints as to why they went their separate ways.
As you'd expect, the 42-year-old delivers predictably cute soundbites for the rest of the interview, “I’ve always felt like a tough girl from the Bronx. But I have a soft core” and “I can take a lot of punches and still keep going”, but one thing's for sure - it will be hard to tear your eyes away from this sweaty spread.
