Manchester United face Athletic Club Bilbao this evening, 3-2 down from their first leg tie last week.

Outplayed by the classy Basque side, as if overturning a two-goal deficit (United have to score twice due to the away goals rule) wasn't hard enough, their record in Spain is appalling.

Twenty-two times they have played on Spanish soil and only thrice have they won. One was of course the 1999 Champions League final in Barcelona, with their only victories against Primera Liga opposition coming against Deportivo La Coruna in 2002 and 2010's group stage defeat of Valencia.

The Reds first ventured to Spain in January 1957, when they faced Athletic. The Busby Babes lost 5-3 but prevailed after a 3-0 win in the second leg on 6 February. Exactly a year later, their plane would tragically crash on a Munich runway.

Ahead of their tie this evening, here's a gallery of the Red Devils in sunny Spain...
