A van has crashed through a bridge above the M42 and landed on the motorway, hitting several other vehicles.
But police said that despite the van hitting a lorry, another van and a car, only one man was injured.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance, police said.
The van smashed through the A452 bridge which crosses the M42 at junction 6 and 7 at around 1.45pm on Monday.
The motorway was shut after the crash, but the northbound lane is now open again, West Midlands police said.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area, as the southbound lane will only open at 8.00pm, transport authorities said.
The police said in a statement: "The Highways Agency is currently looking to put diversions in place but drivers are advised to avoid the area for the time being."
