Bull rider Emilio Resende also had a close call with the ironically named "Mr Slim", a white and black spotted bull. Coming face to face with more than one ton of snorting horned muscle, riders can only stay on his back for an average of 3.59 seconds.
The spur of his cowboy boot catching in the stirrup, Resende was almost trampled by the bull, as the animal threw out its Herculean hind quarters.
However only two riders received minor injuries during the competition. A professional championship, the bull riders can win up to $40,000 or £25,200, with judges awarding scores to those who stay on longer than eight seconds.
