Total Wipeout is to be axed by the BBC after six series, it has been confirmed.
The BBC One game show hosted by Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram is to be shelved after one more series this year.
Total Wipeout sees contestants compete against each other on a giant assault course built in Buenos Aires in Argentina.
The imaginatively constructed course sees contestants plunged into muddy pits, forced to scramble up foamy climbing frames and propelled into big red balls, in order to win a £10,000 cash prize.
The Saturday night show became cult weekend viewing, with around 6.5m people initially tuning in to watch the programme. As the contestants struggle to complete the course, slow motion repeats of their farcical falls accompanied by a commentary gently poking fun at their efforts.
It is understood the show has been dropped to free up cash for other programmes.
The BBC said today: "After four very successful series of Total Wipeout and one series of Winter Wipeout, the BBC has taken the decision that the next series, due to transmit later this year, will be the last."
