David Mitchell Keeps Robert Webb In The Dark Over Best Man Role

'I'm On Tenterhooks': Will Robert Webb Be David Mitchell's Best Man?

Peep Show's Robert Webb is being kept in the dark as to whether he will be best man for his friend and co-star David Mitchell.

Mitchell, who was best man at Webb's 2007 wedding to comedian Abigail Burdess, recently announced his engagement to TV presenter Victoria Coren.

"David hasn't asked me yet," said dad-of-two Webb, 39. "We'll see. I don't know whether to say I'm on tenterhooks. I'll find out sooner or later, but there are plenty of other good candidates so if it's not me it'll be someone terrific.

"He's got plenty of friends and a brother, so I won't be too heartbroken if it's not me. But if it is I'd better start working on that speech."

The comedians, who appeared together in their self-penned sketch show That Mitchell And Webb Look, first found fame as the stars of award-winning Channel 4 comedy Peep Show in which they play dysfunctional housemates coming to terms with adulthood.

They are due to start filming the eighth series over the summer, but Webb still enjoys slipping into character as hapless musician Jez.

"I guess I know what I'm doing now. I've been playing him for getting on for 10 years. He's totally immoral and he's a bad guy in many ways, but he's very lovable. He never really learns, but playing Jez is fun because he does and says things the rest of us would never dream of."

Webb's new children's show Tales of Friendship with Winnie the Pooh will air on Disney Junior UK later this year.
