Hacking Investigation 'Too Large', Says Jenny Jones

The police's investigation into phone hacking is "too large" and should be "pretty low on the agenda", according to Jenny Jones.

Green Mayoral candidate Jenny Jones, who was member of the Metropolitan Police Authority, questioned the amount of resources being devoted to Operation Weeting.

"Although this is not a victimless crime it is not something we should be spending a huge amount of time on"

"There are murders, child abductions and rapes that these officers could be investigating. All these people have to do is not use the voicemail facility on their phone and they will never be hacked again. At a time when resources are so stretched this investigation, for me, should be pretty low on the agenda."

This comes as Deputy Mayor Kit Malthouse caused controversy by dismissing phone hacking as "hysteria". He also questioned the size of resources being put into Operation Weeting.

Operation Weeting was launched in January 2011 to investigate allegations of phone hacking at the News of the World.
