Britain From Above Month By Month, Aerial Photographs By Jason Hawkes

Aerial Photographs Of Britain From Above

A book featuring sweeping aerial views of the United Kingdom from the skies has hit the shelves.

Shot by aerial photographer Jason Hawkes, the collection includes images of Buckingham Palace, the Glenfinnan Viaduct in Scotland (which features in the Harry Potter films), the Oval, and the Angel Of The North.

Hawkes, who shoots only from helicopters, began his career in 1991 and is now on his 35th book.

He specialises in standard shots of locations from above and “abstract art form images which are natural or manmade, which you don’t know are there until you happen to fly over them."

In a short video filmed by the BBC, he added: "Britain is a really beautiful place to fly over. I’ve recently been shooting stuff at night over the city, over Canary Wharf, its just unbelievable, particularly even in the summer if you go flying at 9 or 10 at night, no one is actually at work but all these offices are lit up.”

Britain From Above Month by Month, by Jason Hawkes, published by DK, £20.
