Can a high tech home actually be liveable?
Andrew Maynard's House on the Hill in Melbourne, Australia, is a prime example of a high tech home blending with an existing, older house.
The unique form designed by the Melbourne architect features a modern interior, large kitchen, beautiful spiral staircase, private backyard and a hill.
The architect created an artificial hill on which sits a cantilevered box which catches the sun. The new build sits in the backyard of the family's original house, making the most of the sun's rays in each of the buildings.
The old front door is no longer in use, with the entry not slotted down the side lane. Maynard says the kitchen has become the nerve centre of the house, and the old house at the front is now the kids' domain.
