Mubarak Likely To Be Moved To Hospital

The health of deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is in a precarious state, according to reports from the Associated Press.

Mubarak was sentenced to life imprisonment on Saturday

Mubarak, 84, is being held in Torah prison in Cairo. According to Egyptian state media, reported by Reuters, the former president’s condition had deteriorated sufficiently that he is likely to be transferred to hospital.

He is said to be suffering breathing problems and requires the use of a respirator.

Following Mubarak’s conviction on Saturday for complicity to kill protesters, the former leader’s conditioned worsened.

He was given life imprisonment for his crimes after a 10-month trial while his sons, Gamal and Alaa, were acquitted of corruption charges.

Former Interior Minister, Habib al-Adly, was found guilty on the same charge as Mubarak and also received a life sentence.

During the trial, the former dictator appeared in court in a metal cage, looking frail lying on a hospital stretcher.

Following the verdict, there was violence in the courtroom as Mubarak supporters scuffled with members of the opposition.

Mubarak was toppled from power as part of the popular uprisings that spread throughout the Arab world in 2011. He had ruled Egypt for more than 30 years.
