Psychic Karl Lang 'Conned Women Into Acting Like Porn Stars' To Contact Dead Relatives

Psychic Karl Lang 'Never Conned Women Into Getting Naked' To Boost Spirit Powers

A psychic accused of conning vulnerable young women into stripping off for raunchy spiritualist sessions never told them to "get naked," a jury heard on Thursday.

Medium Karl Lang, 49, manipulated his alleged victims into performing sex acts on themselves in front of him.

Lang was sought out by the grieving women in the belief that he could help them contact much missed dead relatives.

But as his alleged power over the women, both in their 20s, increased they were manipulated into behaving more and more outrageously, it is alleged.

One claimed that she was conned into acting like a "porn star" in the belief her naked antics would boost her own spirit powers.

Lang, of Newport, south Wales, is said to have graded their efforts and allegedly stripped off himself if they reached level five.

The raunchy sessions continued for more than three years with Lang describing himself as the reincarnation of Jesus Christ to his vulnerable victims.

They were also encouraged to take naked pictures of themselves and send them to him, Newport Crown Court has heard.

Matthew Roberts, prosecuting, said Lang brainwashed the women into believing the photographs would enhance their own psychic powers.

Lang denies 12 counts of causing women to engage in sexual activity without consent between November 2005 and September 2009.

His female victims have previously described in detail the allegations against him via video link to the court.

Nigel Fryer, defending, dismissed their evidence today and warned the jury that it was not to be trusted.

He reminded them of what Lang has previously said: "I did not invite any of these women to get naked. I did not tell them to behave in a sexual nature in front of me.

"All I did was give them the benefit of spiritual training. That is what they were there for and that alone."

His comments came as the jury prepared to retire to deliberate on verdicts regarding all 12 counts.

Before they did so Mr Fryer added: "Quite simply he was a medium, a psychic, well-known, visiting a large number churches, giving his time. He was invited into the lives of these women, to assist them."

The jury was sent home for the evening after failing to reach a verdict and will restart deliberations tomorrow,
