London 2012: Team GB Equestrian Show Jumpers Win Gold

Jumping For Gold: Team GB Take Equestrian Medal

Team GB's show jumpers have won yet another gold medal to add to the country's tally, following a jump-off victory over the Netherlands.

The British team of Ben Maher, Nick Skelton, Scott Brash and Peter Charles have won the first British Olympic gold medal in show jumping since 1952.

The team began the day at Greenwich Park in joint second place alongside Holland, Switzerland and Sweden, with Saudi Arabia the surprise leaders.

The second round of the jump-off began with Maher on Tripple X, who cleared the course in 48.14 secs, followed by Skelton who completed in 48.54.

Brash hit the second fence on Hello Sanctos but finished in 48.01 secs, and Charles secured the gold on Vindicat, finishing faultlessly and giving Team GB three clear rounds.

The team began the day at Greenwich Park in joint second place alongside Holland, Switzerland and Sweden, with Saudi Arabia the surprise leaders.

Maher said before Monday's event: "There is so much experience in our team. We are all staying focused on our own jobs, and if we can all do what we can do on an individual basis, then we are as good as any team."

London's most famous landmarks were reflected in British designer Bob Ellis' course, which featured scaled down reproductions of Tower Bridge, Big Ben, 10 Downing Street and a London double-decker bus.

Skelton and Maher are believed to have a good chance at individual gold medals - which are decided on Wednesday.

Skelton said after the medal celebrations in which he kissed BBC presenter Clare Balding: "I wish I could have gone four times.

"I've got a wonderful horse, wonderful owners, a dream come true. Wonderful for our country, wonderful for our sport."
