Rupert Murdoch's mother, Dame Elisabeth, has died at the age of 103.
Dame Elisabeth Murdoch passed away peacefully at her home south west of Melbourne, Australia on Wednesday, according to local media.
Rupert Murdoch paid tribute to his mother, known as one of the Australia's most generous philanthropists, in a statement.
''We have lost the most wonderful mother but we are all grateful to have had her love and wisdom for so many years,'' the News Corp chief said.
''Throughout her life, our mother demonstrated the very best qualities of true public service.
''Her energy and personal commitment made our country a more hopeful place and she will be missed by many.''
Dame Elisabeth was known as a generous philanthropist
The widow of Rupert's father, media giant Sir Keith Murdoch, Dame Elisabeth is one of Australia's best-loved philanthropists and a renowned charity worker.
She is survived by three of her children, including Rupert Murdoch. Her eldest daughter, Helen passed away aged 75 in 2004.
