Whitney Houston's death in a hotel bathroom left the entertainment world in shock. A coroner ruled Houston had died from heart disease and the effects of cocaine use. The singer's funeral saw her coffin carried from the church to the strains of her own hit, I Will Always Love You.
Meanwhile one of the other notable deaths of the year was that of the first man to walk on the moon - Neil Armstrong. The Commander of the space ship Apollo 11 died aged 82 after complications arising from a recent cardiac bypass.
