A study of the cost of raising kids has found that some mums and dads could end up forking out nearly £8,000 in the next 12 months just on the cost of sending their children to school.
The staggering sum is made up of overpriced logoed school uniform items, money for school trips, clubs and outings, and splashing out on the latest playground crazes.
Researchers found that school based childcare facilities like breakfast and after-school clubs can cost families anything up to £3,700 per child per year, with extras such as holiday clubs, music lessons and instruments, and friends' birthday parties can add on another £1,000.
A whopping £400 comes just from school uniform and PE kit costs, whilst kids' lunches set parents back around £356.
Eleana Dairymple, from theschoolrun.com, who undertook the survey said that the additional sums parents are asked to contribute to their children's school life 'amount to a significant annual sum.'
Do these figures sound about right to you? Or do you spend a lot more - or less - on your kids school needs each year?
