Mari- Oh-No: Nintendo Wii U Falls Out Of UK Video Game Charts

Nintendo has had another rough week in the UK, according to this week's video games chart.

According to GFK, Nintendo did not have a single game in the top 10 for the second week running - despite its new Wii U console being just 10 days old.

Its flagship 'Nintendo Land' title fell from 11th place to 26th, while New Super Mario Bros U tumbled from 14th to 36th place.

Ubisoft's horror-action shooter ZombiU, widely seen as the best-reviewed adult Wii U game out so far, didn't make it into the top 40, while only the 3DS game New Super Mario Bros 2 remained in the top 20.

It's a rough start for the console even though it basically sold out in its first week, as not enough stock seems to have been on the shelves to make a dent in the Christmas sales rush.

At the top of the charts were the usual suspects - Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 followed by Far Cry 2, FIFA 13, Just Dance 4 and Assassin's Creed 3.

Elsewhere it was reported that Michael Pachter, research analyst at Wedbush Securities, claimed over the weekend that Nintendo was now "completely irrelevant".

"I think you're going to see now with the Wii U, notwithstanding its early launch support, nobody's going to support it," Games Industry reported Pachter as saying.

"I think when next-gen consoles come out they're going to be better than the Wii U... Nobody in their right mind would buy a Wii U and say 'I'm going to play Call of Duty.' That's like saying 'I gave up Facebook, and it's Google+ now'."

However there is a silver lining for Nintendo. While they're not doing well in the GFK charts, on Amazon it's a slightly different story - over there the number one game is Just Dance 4.

But not for the WIi U. For the Wii.
