A road which can glow in the dark has been developed in the Netherlands.
The highway, which can also display weather information and safety warnings, is set to be installed by mid-2013.
Developed by Studio Roosegaarde and Heijmans Infrastructure, it uses photo-luminescant paint which is charged during the day and illuminated at night.
Further ideas for the road include "wind lights" which will use the power of passing cars to charge electric vehicles through induction - though that is not set to go into production for several years.

According to a video posted this week, the road markings will be trialled in the Dutch province of Brabant on a few hundred metres of highway, and will be extended if tests prove successful.
