A cacophony of phallic-looking vegetables was pressed to the lips of Viennese musicians on Monday for the 100th anniversary of the San Miguel market in Madrid.

Known as Das erste Wiener Gemüseorchester, the Austrian musical group are pioneers of the suggestively shaped instruments, which they lovingly tap, rub and blow to create their own unique sound.

Carrot recorders, aubergine clappers and courgette trumpets are amplified with the use of special microphones. After the performance all ninety pounds of vegetables are cooked into a soup. Take a look at the unusual sights below.
