Known as dieu or roi as Manchester United's number seven, the 47-year-old has shied away from returning to sporting fields since his retirement in 1997.
He featured in a Munich testimonial match in 1998 and also cameoed in Ryan Giggs's 2001 testimonial at Old Trafford, but Cantona has primarily channelled his joie de vivre via acting.

But in his homeland, he reminded everyone just why he was so adored as a footballer with a precise dink onto the crossbar.
