The start of a new season is always a good excuse to give your wardrobe and update, but perfume - that just lasts until the bottle is empty, doesn't it?

Don't be put off by the idea of sickly sweet berry perfumes though. Nick Gilbert from Penhaligon's, also suggests choosing "woodsy, ambery and resinous fragrances" for this time of year.
"Look for scents with notes such as iris, benzoin, vanilla and leather - they impart a richness, enveloping the wearer in a protective veil", he said.
As for what's popular for A/W 13? "Iris and gourmand notes (including honey, vanilla, and other foody aromas) continue to crop up in the latest launches, showing that comforting and powdery notes are here to stay".
