FREE CINEMA TICKETS: Watch Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks In 'Saving Mr Banks'

Readers of The Huffington Post UK are being given the chance to see one of the most treasured tales of all time as Disney presents the extraordinary, untold story of how Mary Poppins made it to the big screen - in 'Saving Mr Banks'.

When Walt Disney's daughters begged him to make a movie of their favourite book, P.L. Travers' 'Mary Poppins', he made them a promise - one that he didn't realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt came up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who had absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny be mauled by the Hollywood machine.

For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulled out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launched an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author didn't budge. He soon began to watch helplessly as Travers became increasingly immovable and the rights began to move further away from his grasp.

It is only when he reached into his own childhood that Walt discovered the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.

Starring two-time Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar® winner Tom Hanks, you could get your hands on free cinema tickets to see Saving Mr. Banks before its 29 November UK release.
