But some fans weren't impressed with the snap after two pupils were injured when a 12-year-old student opened fire on classmates in New Mexico.
Andybazedd wrote: “Nice timing, Roswell School Shooting”.
Ginge1977 added: “Goes on about anti bullying but finds it ok to stand there with a gun in her hands, in a country that has had more kids killed in school/colleges than any other country. Bit f***** up if ya ask me! Aint gonna do her image any good.”
And Heprich wrote “Stupid behaviour that makes you look like a gang member wannabe. Why would you want to look like a thug?"
But Jodie, who is in America filming a TV show, hit back, telling The Sun: “I’m not encouraging people to go out and buy a gun and hurt anybody.
“I’m not saying in that picture “Look, go out and buy a gun’.
“It’s far more damaging when celebrities glamorise drugs because that’s doing real harm."
Last year actress Helen Flanagan was blasted for posting a picture of her posing with a gun was just days after the Sandy Hook school shooting which left 26 children dead.
