Pellegrini And Johnson Scoop Monthly Awards
Barclays

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini and Sunderland winger Adam Johnson have claimed the Barclays Manager and Player of the Month awards for January.

Pellegrini has become the first coach to win consecutive Manager of the Month awards since Carlo Ancelotti achieved the feat as Chelsea boss in 2011. Pellegrini guided City to four straight wins in the Premier League, in which his side scored 14 goals in the victories against Tottenham Hotspur (5-1), Cardiff City (4-2), Newcastle United (2-0) and Swansea City (3-2).

Former City man Johnson has scooped the Player of the Month award after an impressive month for the Black Cats. Johnson scored a hat-trick in Sunderland's 4-1 away win against Fulham, before hitting the equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Southampton and the winner against Stoke City to bring his Premier League goal tally for the month to five.

Johnson's form could seem him recalled to the England squad next month

City lie second in the table behind Arsenal while Sunderland have rocketed up to 14th under Gus Poyet.
