The weather, which some described as looking "apocalyptic", hit the Australian city during rush hour.

Tubular-shaped clouds were pictured looming menacingly over famous beaches including Bondi and Coogee.
More than 12mm of rain was recorded in the half hour the storm hit, between 4.30pm and 5pm local time.
