Julie will star alongside Freddie Fox and Vincent Franklin in the series, which is currently filming in Manchester but won't hit our screens until next year.

Russell T Davies' other TV credits include 'Queer As Folk' and 'Doctor Who'.

'Cucumber' follows the lives of 46-year-old Henry (Franklin) and his boyfriend Lance, whose 'lives are turned upside down after a disastrous date night', according to the BBC.

Julie - who will play Henry's sister - left 'Corrie' in January, after clocking up 16 years on the cobbles playing the soap's first ever transgender character .

Over 10 million viewers tuned in to watch her character take her own life after suffering from terminal cancer.

She went on to win the Best Actress gong at the National Television Awards for her final scenes in the soap.
