Hole In The Sun Filmed By Nasa Looks Worrying, But It's Just Harmless Solar Winds

A giant square hole in the sun has been spotted in a rather incredible video.

But fear not apocalypse fans, it's nothing to worry about, it's what is known as a 'coronal hole' according to Nasa.

This is an area where high-speed solar wind streams into space which appears dark as there is less material to emit UV light.

Those little dots and loops you can see within the hole are actually pieces of the magnetic field sticking above the surface of the sun.

Coronal matter ejected into space can often affect Earth as is collides with our atmosphere.

At one end of the scale this results in the beautiful aurora borealis or 'Northern Lights' but more extreme and powerful coronal mass ejections can disrupt satellites, communications and power supplies.

The observations were made by Nasa's Solar Dynamics observatory (SDO) a fleet of spacecraft monitoring the sun.

They have captured numerous incredible images of our nearest star, not least this incredible video...
