Student Shot Dead By Teen Who Turned Gun On Himself As He Sat On School Toilet

A talented student was shot dead and a teacher left injured during a shooting spree by a teen gunman who was later found slumped over a toilet after turning the gun on himself.

Emilio Hoffman, who was described as being "loved by all", was killed in Reynolds High School's locker room by the as-yet unnamed teenager at 8am local time on Tuesday (12pm Monday BST).

The gunman entered the school through the gym, wounding PE teacher Todd Rispler - who saved "countless lives" by initiating the school lockdown procedure, according to local police chief Scott Anderson.

"They told us to turn the lights off. It was pretty scary, it was really scary. All we heard were silent hallways. Then we heard police muffled through the walls 45 minutes to an hour," one student told news station KGW.

Police said the killer teen was found slumped over a toilet in a school bathroom and likely killed himself.

Troutdale Police Chief Scott Anderson said Hoffman, a 14-year-old freshman, was "a great kid who was loved by all", the Oregonian reported.

The school's boys' soccer coach Allan Berry said he expected Emilio to try for a place on the soccer team coming season. "He just seemed to be a nice, quiet young man that got on with life. He was one of those kids, you know?

"I'm sure the boys will choose to make this [soccer season] a season for him."
