Glasgow 2014: How Perth Opened The 1962 Commonwealth Games (VIDEO)

"It was 93 in the shade in Perth."

We don't think Glasgow will quite match the heat of the Commonwealth Games host city back in 1962 - even in the current good weather - but Scotland's second city's opening ceremony may well better it as a showpiece event.

One similarity at both ceremonies though will be the presence of Prince Philip who opened the Games 52 years ago on behalf of the Queen and will also be in Glasgow on Wednesday evening.
