Arsène Wenger Refereeing Charity Match In Rome On Deadline Day

Arsène Wenger has risked the ire of Arsenal supporters after it emerged he is spending transfer deadline day refereeing a charity match in Rome.

Wenger will officiate Match for Peace, an event organised by Pope Francis and former Internazionale captain Javier Zanetti to raise money for children in Buenos Aires. Despite his philanthropic activities, Wenger's decision to fly to the Italian capital reflects badly on a manager whose parsimony has inhibited Arsenal over the last decade.

Arsenal supporters sang "sign a fucking striker" during their 1-1 draw at Leicester on Sunday, as the profligate Yaya Sanogo continued to deputise for the injured Olivier Giroud, sidelined until the new year with an ankle injury.
