The change of season signals a new beauty look. Here are our top autumn trends to try at home.
Liberty Ross on the catwalk at Tom Ford A/W 14
1. Rock 'n' roll eyes
Tom Ford set the tone for autumn with his combination of low key hair and sexy, slept in smudgy eyes. Top make up artist Charlotte Tilbury was inspired by Carine Roitfeld and Chrissie Hynde for this just rolled out of bed look. Team with matte lips.
Marchesa A/W 2014
2. Ballerina bun
The messy ballerina bun was seen on the runways of Diane von Furstenberg and Marchesa and the great news is, this look is quick and easy to create. Pull hair into a tight pony on the top of your head and simply wind the hair around and secure with bobby pins. It's perfect for those busy days when you've no time to wash and blow-dry your hair.
Carolina Herrera A/W 14
3. Natural nails
Think classic grown up nails for A/W 14. "Soft, round natural nails will be the nail shape for the coming season," predicts nail artist Sophie Harris Greenslade aka The Illustrated Nail. "Nails are steering away from the stiletto and becoming much softer and shorter." The trend colours are, "nudes and rich jewel tones as well as deep inky colours."
Model Jourdan Dunn
4. The new bob
After a summer of braids, the new chic bob is the perfect way to step into the cooler months in style. Shorter hair has been seen on celebs from Cate Blanchett to Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone and Kate Mara. The new bob is a grown out pixie bob and worn slightly longer and closer to the shoulder.
Prada A/W 14
5. Blue eye shadow
Blue eye shadow was seen on the Giles and Prada catwalks while azure eyes were also seen at Anna Suit and Tata Naka. Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath MBE teamed spidery lashes with cool coloured eye shadow and matte, stained lips to create an ethereal make up look for Prada.
Ann Yee A/W 14
6. Graphic blue lips
Expect to see a lot more blue on eyes and lips this season. These graphic lips by Ann Yee might not work for everybody, but strong graphic looks on eyes and lips are set to make a statement.
Matthew Williamson A/W 14
7. 70s glamour
You can count on Matthew Williamson to channel a glamorous make up look. Taking inspiration from Jerry Hall, leading makeup artist Lisa Eldridge broke the rules and teamed strong lips with strong eyes. Lips were painted dramatic glossy deep plums and soft, smoky bronzed lids created a stunning, shimmering look.
Roksanda Ilincic AW14
8. Dreamy complexion
One of the top trends from the A/W 14 was natural looking makeup or the sporty luxe look. This was seen on the runways from Burberry Prorsum to Roksanda Ilincic and Michael Kors. The luminous look is created by using a mix of clever creamy products. Choose silky foundations and illuminating under eye concealers to create a glowing finish. Highlighters add contouring and definition. Invest in a good daily skin care routine as healthy skin is the key.
